Every Greater Manchester postcode receiving cold weather payments

Eligible residents are now receiving a £25 payment across all areas of Greater Manchester after temperatures plummeted in recent weeks. Cold Weather Payments are being made in an effort to help people keep warm this winter.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is triggering the payments across areas where temperatures either drop, or are forecast to drop, to 0C or below. Greater Manchester saw temperatures comfortably below that figure last week.

And the DWP has since triggered Cold Weather Payments in every area of Greater Manchester. Across England and Wales, the payments have now been triggered in 309 postcode areas, as of Wednesday, December 6.

The £25 payment is paid to those on benefits including Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit and Support for Mortgage Interest. Recipients will be automatically paid £25 for each seven-day period of freezing weather that takes place until March 31 next year.

Last year, more than 5.5 million Cold Weather Payments were made by the DWP. Anyone who has not received the payment, but believes they should have, is advised to contact the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus.

People on Universal Credit can add a note to their journal online, or call the Universal Credit helpline. Meanwhile, millions of low-income benefit recipients have received two Cost of Living Payments worth £301 and £300 to help with bills so far this year.
