Everton now facing £500m 'question mark' at Goodison Park

Everton are facing a “big question mark” over their proposed plans to relocate to the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Frank Lampard’s side saw their £500m plans for a new home given the all clear back in March 2021, having been given approval by Liverpool’s City Council a month prior.

A report from Liverpool Business News just last month suggested that even if the Toffees were relegated from the Premier League this season, the stadium plan will go ahead.

The move to the Bramley-Moore Dock site would represent the end of Everton’s long and historic stay at Goodison Park, their home since 1892.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown admitted relegation would cast major doubt on the Toffees’ plans for their new stadium, and that it has become a real “worry” for the club.

He said: “Then there is the stadium. Does the stadium get built if they’re a Championship club? There is a big question mark over that.

“A few months ago it did sound like that would be unlikely if they did go down. Whether that’s changed or not, I don’t know. The funding is still not entirely in place for the stadium, and it’s not going to get any cheaper with world affairs the way they are now at the moment. So that is also a worry.”

Quite aside from the ignominy Everton would face if they were relegated from the Premier League this season, the wider ramifications it would cause the club not just for next year, but for the years to come too, would be unthinkable.
