Chelsea: Potter now working on 'two different formations' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been working on two different formations in training, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The former Brighton boss recently replaced Thomas Tuchel in the Stamford Bridge dugout, and it looks like there could be a little bit of a shake-up under him.

During Tuchel’s time in west London, Chelsea mostly lined up in a 3-4-3/3-4-2-1 system.

The use of three central defenders gave Chelsea a lot of solidity at the back in the early part of Tuchel’s reign, with the Blues going on to win the Champions League in 2021 after conceding just four goals. Frank Lampard was, of course, in charge during the group stage, but Tuchel kept the team solid in the knockout phase.

However, since then, Chelsea have not looked like the same defensive beast they once were under their former manager.

In six Premier League games this season, they have already conceded nine times, contributing to their goal difference of -1.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Potter has been trying out two different formations at Cobham since becoming Chelsea boss.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “He’s been working on a few different things since coming in. Obviously, it’s very early days, but people I speak to say that they’ve seen him work on basically two different shapes in training, neither particularly dissimilar to what Tuchel was utilising.

“And I think that’s quite important. You don’t want to completely rock the boat at this stage.”

Some Chelsea fans are probably desperate to see Potter use a back four so that an extra midfielder or attacker can get on the pitch.

Offensively, they have been very boring to watch at times this season, failing to score against Dinamo Zagreb and Leeds
