Everton: Lampard has 'overwhelmed players' at Goodison Park

Everton manager Frank Lampard’s approach to matches may have become “overwhelming” for some of the players, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees have managed to turn their form around in recent weeks, but discipline on the pitch remains a major issue for the team.

Lampard’s side have picked up 11 points from their last seven games, which has included victories against Manchester United and Everton. This has moved them out of the bottom three heading into their last two matches.

However, they had two players sent off in their latest fixture at home to Brentford, with Jarrad Branthwaite and Salomon Rondon given their marching orders before the final whistle.

This took their tally of red cards for the season to six as they went on to lose 3-2 to the Bees, leaving them still needing more points to guarantee their place in the Premier League for another year.

Jones thinks Everton have brought a lot of their problems on themselves, and has suggested that Lampard’s intensity has had a negative affect on the players at times.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They’ve been shooting themselves in the foot, but ultimately, a lot of what Frank Lampard builds is based around passion and enthusiasm. And I feel like it’s almost been overwhelming for some of the players in that squad, and it’s boiled over.”

Fans have gathered outside the stadium prior to Everton’s last two home games against Chelsea and Brentford, and this has largely led to positive performances from the team.
