Everton: Lampard could sideline £50k-a-week star at Goodison Park

Everton winger Alex Iwobi will lose his place in Frank Lampard‘s starting XI next season if the Toffees manage to stay up, claims Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The 26-year-old has been a regular under Lampard, but Brown expects that to change in the future should his team avoid relegation.

Versatility. Since Lampard’s arrival at the club, Iwobi has played out wide, behind the striker and in midfield.

He has also brought a lot of energy to the team, something Lampard spoke about back in February.

“It was a tough gig playing on the sides against Leeds, you have to do a lot of work off the ball, and he did everything,” the Everton manager was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo after a 3-0 win against the Whites.

His most important contribution for the Toffees this season, though, has come against Newcastle United at Goodison park, where he scored the only goal of the game to give Lampard’s men all three points.

While Brown has told GIVEMESPORT in the past that he feels Lampard is getting the best out of Iwobi, the Daily Star reporter doubts he will be able to keep hold of his place.

Speaking to GMS, he said: “If they stay up and they are in any way able to strengthen, I’m sure that’s an area that Lampard would like to improve on. So he’ll have his work cut out staying in the team long term, I think.”

Everton spent a lot of money when they signed Iwobi from Arsenal for £34m back in 2019.

The Nigeria international is also thought to be on a £50,000-a-week contract, so he has not been a cheap piece of business for the Merseyside club.

For what it has taken to acquire him, Iwobi probably has not done enough at Goodison Park, scoring
