Everton 'keen' on Birmingham City product as St Andrew's optimism grows

Welcome to BirminghamLive's coverage of all things Blues, on

Bristol City are sweating on the fitness of centre back Tomas Kalas for this weekend’s visit of Birmingham City.

While Nigel Pearson doesn’t have anything like the selection problems of counterpart Lee Bowyer, the Robins boss does have a few defensive headaches of his own.

Particularly at centre back after Kalas limped off towards the end of last Saturday’s defeat at Nottingham Forest – casting doubt on his availability against Blues.

Should the Czech Republic international not be ready that would leave Pearson scratching around for a partner for January free agent signing Timm Klose.

The Robins are certain to be without Rob Atkinson who has a calf injury and has not played since January 22, while Nathan Baker has been out since November and might well not play again this season.

Rookie Ryley Towler appears to have suffered another setback in his recovery from a back injury, having been substituted before half time of a Robins’ Under 23s game on Tuesday with what has been reported as a groin problem.

That means Robbie Cundy, who has had knee problems for most of the season, could step up after playing 45 minutes at the City Ground.

Blues have only three wins from 18 away games this season but will head down the M5 hopeful they can produce a first since October 30.

Make no mistake, though, it will be a side long on
