Manchester United loanee Teden Mengi suffers injury setback at Birmingham City

Manchester United loanee Teden Mengi has been sidelined for up to six weeks after his latest injury setback on loan at Birmingham City.

The Reds trainee arrived at St Andrew's in January but has seen his development hampered by a recurring hamstring injury. He was stricken with the issue last month as he was forced off against AFC Bournemouth before he sat out for a month following the Blues' clash with Luton Town.

His injury adds to the mounting problems for manager Lee Bowyer as he has now been forced to make do without the United youngster until their final couple of games. Their defeat to Middlesbrough saw him forced off in the opening half-an-hour as the Birmingham boss confirmed it was a recurrence of an ongoing hamstring problem, as per Birmingham Live.

The news comes as a blow to both Mengi and the Championship side after the 19-year-old made a bright start to his career at the second-tier side. Following four games out of action, he was an unused substitute against Hull City last weekend prior to his disappointing comeback.

On the injury, Bowyer said : "Lyle did his calf yesterday, and Teds [Mengi] has done the same hamstring." The Blues will have to make do without the defender's services for at least a month as they sit in 20th place, just above the relegation zone.
