Everton: 'Great' situation unfolding for Frank Lampard at Goodison Park

Everton finding ways to win games by the odd goal can only be a good thing for Frank Lampard, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Saturday’s comeback victory over Southampton saw them climb to 11th in the Premier League table, their highest league position since November 2021.

Despite a two-week break following their first win of the season against West Ham, Everton turned in another disciplined performance and one where they had to show plenty of character at St Mary’s.

That’s because even though Lampard’s charges fell behind early in the second period when Joe Aribo put Saints ahead, they still found a way.

Three minutes later Conor Coady swept home his first goal in Everton colours before Dwight McNeil’s thunderous effort helped extend their unbeaten run to six games, their best in the same campaign since December 2017.

It also means that seven of their eight Premier League victories under Lampard’s guidance have been by a one-goal margin.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “The last couple of matches they’ve managed to make those decisions pay off, getting tight wins by the odd goal.

“If that’s their way forward, then it’s great, and at the moment, I think mid-table is a good place for them to be.”

Lampard’s side might be on the second longest unbeaten run in the Premier League, but their record is likely to be severely put to the test in the coming weeks.

Everton are back in action on Sunday when they host Manchester United, a side they beat in this exact fixture back in April, at Goodison Park.
