Everton fans 'wouldn't be happy' with 43-cap star's Goodison Park exit

Everton supporters will be disappointed if the club decides to sell goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer, claims journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Pickford has been the team’s first-choice shot-stopper for the last five years, but he is not guaranteed to still be at Goodison Park at the start of next season.

Despite Everton having a dismal campaign, which has seen them drawn into a relegation scrap, Pickford can still hold his head high, particularly after his performances in recent weeks.

He pulled off a number of crucial saves in his side’s wins against Chelsea and Leicester to help the Toffees move out of the bottom three.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that Everton could still look to cash in on the 43-cap international in the next transfer window, though. Tottenham and Newcastle are believed to be interested in the 28-year-old.

O’Rourke has stated that he thinks fans will be unhappy if Pickford departs, but he has pointed out that it may be a necessary move for the club to make given their current financial predicament.

Speaking about how fans would react if Pickford moved on, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think it’d go down too well, but I think Everton fans are probably realistic about the financial issues that the club are facing. They’ve obviously had problems with FFP, which stopped them signing too many players in the last summer transfer window.”

If they go down, Everton will probably have no choice but to sell Pickford. England’s No. 1 is unlikely to want to play in the Championship, especially in a World Cup year.

However, should Frank Lampard’s men stay up, it may be wise to keep hold of Pickford, who has rarely let the team down,
