Everton: £38m star could replace Anthony Gordon at Goodison Park

Everton could look to sign PSV star Cody Gakpo if they lose Anthony Gordon, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

With Gordon being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, Frank Lampard might have to start considering a replacement and Phillips reckons that Gakpo is a possibility.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are interested in Gakpo, who’s been linked with several Premier League clubs this summer.

Manchester United appeared to be in the driving seat for the £38m-rated wide man, but with the Red Devils now pursuing a deal for Ajax ace Antony, David Ornstein has claimed that there interest in Gakpo has since ‘cooled‘.

Chelsea have already seen a bid of around £40m-£45m rejected for the 21-year-old, but Sky Sports believe the Blues would be prepared to pay up to £60m for his services.

According to The Athletic, Gordon has told Lampard that he wants to sign for Chelsea and play Champions League football, which could improve his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup.

If the youngster does get his wish, Everton will have to replace him, and Phillips reckons they could turn their attentions to Gakpo.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s interest in Cody Gakpo, that’s one name given to me that they could turn to, to replace Gordon.”

Despite not being able to guide PSV into the group stages of the Champions League following their play-off exit to Rangers, the Netherlands international is proven at the top level and would be an fine addition for Everton.

In 47 appearances last season, Gakpo
