"Massive boost" – Journalist reacts after Marsch issues double injury update at Leeds United

Injuries to Illan Meslier and Patrick Bamford not being serious is a “massive boost” for Leeds, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The £36m-rated pair were forced off in the victory at Wolves last Friday but aren’t expected to spend a long spell on the sidelines.

While Leeds’ win at Molineux was one of their best in recent Premier League memory, it was far from the perfect evening for Jesse Marsch.

The American might have watched his side complete a remarkable second half comeback, but he lost four players to injury during the game.

Bamford was the first of those, pulling up after just 23 minutes with the same foot injury that has been causing him so many issues over the last couple of months.

Marsch said: “I think his plantar fasciitis [has] been sensitive over the last couple of weeks. Obviously, he was very disappointed and then the reaction can look like it’s a bad injury, but I don’t think it is.”

Diego Llorente and Mateusz Klich were next to come off before Leeds lost their goalkeeper early in the second period when he was involved in an incident with Raul Jimenez. The challenge saw the Wolves striker sent off, while Meslier was replaced having taken a whack to his hip.

Once more, however, Marsch remained optimistic about the Frenchman. “He picked up a bit of like a hip contusion and we’ll see what that looks like in the coming days, but I don’t think it’s too bad,” he admitted.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s a massive boost. That’s two key players in two key positions for them. Goalkeeper for Meslier and Bamford up front, who only recently returned for them.”
