Eurovision 2024 Ireland entry: Doomsday Blue lyrics, who is Bambie Thug and odds to win

Performing at this year's Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland is singer-songwriter Bambie Thug. They will be singing Doomsday Blue at the final of the 2024 competition which is taking place at Malmo Arena in Sweden on Saturday night.

Bambie Thug will be hoping to regain the Eurovision crown for Ireland who famously won the contest four times in five years back in the 1990s - 92, 93, 94 and 96. More recently it has been tough going for Ireland and the country has not appeared in a Eurovision final since 2018.

Bambie Thug, whose real name is Bambie Ray Robinson, qualified to represent the country after winning Eurosong 2024 - the competition to find this year's Eurovision entry. Bambie, however, is no stranger to the big stage and has performed at festivals including Download, The Great Escape and Trans Musicales.

However their preparation for this year's event was thrown into chaos as Bambie, who uses the pronouns they/them, was rushed to hospital just days before the semi-final.

The 31-year-old posted on Instagram on Saturday, alongside a picture of them in a hospital room: "Hey guys, really sorry but I have to cancel my meet and greet performance today…

“I had to go to hospital late last night and be put on a drip because I ate some bad shellfish. I need to take the day to try and recover so I can smash my performances next week."

Cork-born Bambie uses the self-coined term 'ouiji pop' to describe their sound. The pop and electro-metal song Doomsday Blue is almost certain to stand out from the crowd at this year's contest.
