Europa League wrap: Brighton sink Ajax in Amsterdam

Brighton and Hove Albion completed a Europa League double over Ajax as Roberto De Zerbi's men triumphed 2-0 at Johan Cruyff Arena.

In a repeat of the scoreline when the sides had met at the Amex Stadium two weeks earlier, Ansu Fati - adding to his effort in that initial encounter - opened the scoring early on before Simon Adingra doubled the lead eight minutes into the second half.

Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson replaced Fati with 65 minutes on the clock.

Liverpool's 100% record in Group E came to an end as they were beaten 3-2 at Toulouse, being denied a late equaliser via VAR. Jurgen Klopp's side remain top of their pool, with Toulouse now two points behind in second.

Roma lost 2-0 at Slavia Prague courtesy of second-half goals from Vaclav Jurecka and Lukas Masopust, a result that sees the Czech side usurp their opponents at the top of Group G on goal difference.

In Group F, table-toppers Rennes beat Panathinaikos 3-1 at home despite having Jeanuel Belocian sent off in the first half.

Villarreal replaced the Greeks in second after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Maccabi Haifa thanks to late goals from Alex Baena and former Crystal Palace forward Alexander Sorloth.

Bayer Leverkusen are yet to drop a point in Group H following their 1-0 win at Qarabag.

In the Europa Conference League Jamie McGrath's 30-yard free-kick earned Aberdeen a point against PAOK in Greece but it was not enough to keep the Dons in the competition beyond Christmas.

McGrath - named in Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland squad today - struck soon after PAOK took the lead midway through the second half after fighting back from an early opener from Luis 'Duk' Lopes.

The 2-2 draw in Thessaloniki earned Aberdeen their second point in Group G but PAOK
