Euro 2022: England score most group stage goals in European Championship history

The Lionesses have scored the most group stage goals in European Championship history after three impressive performances at Euro 2022.

England scored 15 goals in Group A, following up a 1-0 victory against Austria with 8-0 and 5-0 demolitions of Norway and Northern Ireland respectively.

This has set yet another record, surpassing the 11 goals scored by Germany in the group stage at Euro 2001.

In the men’s tournament, the highest number of goals scored in the group stage is nine. This was achieved by France in 1984 and the Netherlands in 2008.

It is not the first record set by the Lionesses at Euro 2022. The side’s 8-0 result against Norway was the biggest win in the history of the European Championship, men and women’s.

The previous record-breaking victory had also been set by England, who romped their way to a 6-0 win over Scotland at Euro 2017, while there have been five men’s games won by a five-goal margin.

The Lionesses now face a quarter-final clash against Spain or Denmark, who play tomorrow as Group B comes to a conclusion.
