The Springboks returned to rapturous applause from thousands of fans after they retained their Rugby World Cup crown with a 12-11 win over New Zealand in the final in Paris on Saturday.
During a press conference at the airport, Etzebeth explained that Snyman reminded him in the early hours of Sunday morning about a certain promise he had made.
"About five weeks ago, me and RG Snyman spoke on the bus, and I said if we win the World Cup, I'd cut my hair like his," Etzebeth told reporters.
"At about 4:30 after the final ... and I was not drinking water ... RG reminded me of it. I'm a man of my word."
