Ester Sokler has 'unpredictable' Aberdeen FC factor as sky is the limit for striker who came from the streets

Rok Zorko took Ester Sokler off the streets and now believes he is ready to hit the road to glory with Aberdeen.

The Slovenian frontman arrived in a six-figure move from NK Radomlje earlier this summer. The striker has already made an instant impression on the Red Army, scoring five goals in three pre-season outings. Aberdeen fans will be hoping that continues when Aberdeen continue their preparations against Charlton Athletic, ahead of their Premiership opener against Livingston. Sokler, 24, has brought a real excitement to the Dons frontline and could add another exciting dimension to the goalscoring talents of Duk and Bojan Miovski.

His former coach Zorko worked with the youngster as he came through the youth ranks and into the first team, where he made his breakthrough at NK Krsko. Since then he has watched on proudly as Sokler has moved up the ranks to NK Brezice, NK Celje, and NK Radomlje before his arrival at Europa League-bound Aberdeen.

Zorko explained: “I was his coach from Under-10 to the seniors, and I know almost anything about him. Ester has grown up on the streets. He spent hours and hours playing football in the school playground. He lives football and that is all he had to lighten his hard youth years.

“So, because of this he is very unpredictable, fast thinking but with good timing to run in behind the opponent’s defensive line. If he fits well into the Aberdeen team and if gets confidence from the coach, as I am sure he will, then he will provide dynamism and real good movement at the top end of the field.
