Manchester City appear to be growing closer to securing a deal to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer in what is set to be a huge money move for one of world football’s most sought after players.
The 21-year-old has been chased by the majority of Europe’s elite in recent months as his contract has begun to run down in Germany, with his current deal having just over one year remaining on it, while he has not agreed any new terms. And it now looks as though Haaland’s services are set to be acquired by Pep Guardiola ’s side, with the huge financial details of the deal leading to Dortmund’s adviser, Matthias Sammer, "passing out" in shock.
When asked if a deal had already been agreed for Haaland, Sammer, speaking on Amazon Prime, said: “I don’t know. I was fully focused on this match [ Manchester United v Atletico Madrid]. I didn’t hear anything today, yesterday, the day before yesterday. I know City is after him. The numbers – I had whiplash! I passed out. My wife picked me up again. Accordingly, it is possible.”
Dortmund signed Haaland for just €20 million from Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 but are set to sell him on for far more than that, and City will be one of few clubs who have the financial backing to match his price tag. However, Haaland has a £63 million release clause in
