Borussia Dortmund send Man City update on Erling Haaland release clause and confirm new striker plans

Borussia Dortmund say there is no deadline for Erling Haaland to activate his release clause as Manchester City continue their pursuit of the striker.

City are in a good position to sign Haaland, who is available for €75m (£62.7m) this summer, with reports suggesting the player must notify Dortmund of his intention to activate a release clause in his contract before the end of April. However, Dortmund's head of their licenced player department, Sebastian Kehl - who will become sporting director next season - says there is no such deadline in Haaland's contract as he dismissed those reports that have been shared in recent weeks.

Speaking to DAZN, Kehl said: “There is no date and no statement about Haaland. A lot has been written in the last few days but much of it is not true.”

While Dortmund have previously said they would prefer Haaland to make a decision on his future sooner rather than later, Kehl also hinted that they are preparing for life without their star man next season and appear resigned to him leaving in the summer.

Confirming that the club are pressing ahead with plans to sign a new striker themselves for next season, Kehl said: “We hope that we will make progress in the discussions that we are having internally about bringing a forward. That is important for our planning.”
