Erling Haaland scores again as 63-year-old record equalled by Man City against Southampton

Manchester City beat Southampton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon to equal a 63-year-old record by scoring more than three goals for nine successive home games.

The record was previously set by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1959, with the Midlands side recording nine successive matches at Molineux in which they scored more than three goals. At the time, Wolves were the leading side in the country, winning the English top flight in both the 1957/58 and 1958/59 seasons.

Iconic English centre-back Billy Wright led Wolves on their way to that record, with their title win coming at the end of the season. This is a good omen for City, who will be targeting a third successive Premier League win this season under Pep Guardiola.

João Cancelo, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland all scored for City on Saturday afternoon as they equalled the record, with a struggling Southampton side struggling to contain a City side who are on top of their game at present.

City have been in record-breaking form this season, with Haaland's start to his Premier League career setting new standards for goalscoring. The Norwegian has broken the record for the most goals scored in his first 10 games with 15 goals already in nine games and is on track to break the league scoring record comfortably.
