Erling Haaland's true Man City test is now upon him

Erling Haaland's positive start in a Manchester City shirt is hard to argue against.

The Norwegian is perhaps the closest thing to a goal-scoring machine that world football has seen for some time. His ability in the penalty area is head and shoulders above anyone else in the Premier League right now, arguably ever in the league's history.

His tally of 10 goals in just six Premier League matches is far beyond what even the most loyal City supporter was expecting from the striker. Looking back now, questioning Haaland's suitability to the division looks foolish; instead he has taken it by storm.

Despite all this though, it could all be over-shadowed by what begins this week. The Champions League. City have been dominating opponents in domestic competition for years now. The Premier League title has almost had a regular residency at the Etihad Stadium while Pep Guardiola has been in east Manchester.

It's arguable that City didn't need to sign Haaland to remain a force on these shores. It is what they do away from the 'bread and butter' that now counts.

The one thing missing in the blue half of Manchester is Europe's biggest prize. As harsh as it sounds, Haaland's career will be defined by what happens in midweek.

Take last season's defeat to Real Madrid in the semi-final of the famous competition. A striker with a killer instinct up front could have avoided the heartbreak that was to come at the Bernabeu.
