Erik ten Hag told how to fix Manchester United squad as players are accused of 'switching off'

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has said he feels sorry for Ralf Rangnick after another heavy defeat ended their top-four hopes.

United's interim manager was criticised by Rio Ferdinand recently for 'airing dirty laundry in public'. Rangnick told the press before his side's defeat on the south coast that he had been blocked from making signings in January to improve United's situation.

Ferdinand said on his FIVE podcast: "If you are going to talk about that, if you have left the place and you have severed ties with the club, maybe that's when you want to talk about it. Fine. I understand that, maybe.

"You can get a few things off your chest... but you are still there working; 'I told them to sign these three players, [Luis] Diaz at Liverpool who is now flying'. It makes him look a bit better and takes the responsibility off him.

"I don't think it is right what he is doing. Yeah, you are disappointed, of course, but speak about [those things] and iron it out at the club. When you are gone, then you can say your piece, maybe. Doing it when you are there right now doesn't help anybody."

But Bosnich, who played for United between 1999 and 2001, felt sympathy for the German. He explained on Sky Sports : "There are no words that really come to mind to describe it [defeat to Brighton], we have seen it time and time again.

"I feel very sorry for Brighton as they were absolutely fantastic but I think that has got lost in the fact that once again Manchester United were heavily beaten. It has been apparent for quite some time now what needs to happen.

" Erik ten Hag is going to have to put a broom through that squad
