Erik ten Hag still has questions to answer in three key Manchester United positions

Manchester United may need reinforcements in some areas but they're in good shape in others as the club heads towarda the final two weeks of the transfer market.

The club have spent more than £170m on three new players this summer. Andre Onana will revolutionise the No.1 role at Old Trafford; Mason Mount will bring a balance of energy and creativity to midfield; and Rasmus Hojlund is viewed as the club’s striker for the long term.

The Reds have since been tipped to make further additions in midfield, with Sofyan Amrabat, Amadou Onana and Ryan Gravenberch among those linked. Meanwhile, David de Gea, Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga are among those to have headed in the opposite direction as the manager looks to refine United’s squad.

Goalkeeper

Onana has taken over the mantle as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, a title held by De Gea since 2011. Having previously worked with Ten Hag at Ajax and reached the Champions League final with Inter Milan, there are few concerns that the 27-year-old will not adapt to the pressure, aside from perhaps a few teething problems as the team gets to grips with his style of play.

It was the options behind Onana that appeared to be a cause for concern throughout the summer. With Dean Henderson initially expected to leave the club and United cashing in on academy prospects, veteran Tom Heaton was used as second-choice in pre-season.
