Erik ten Hag set to face Liverpool in first game in charge of Manchester United

With Erik ten Hag now confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager, many fans will be counting down the days before they can see their new boss take charge.

After weeks of speculation, Ten Hag’s appointment was officially announced by United on Thursday morning, with the current Ajax boss set to take over at the end of the season. The 52-year-old becomes the club’s second ever Dutch manager, and the fifth permanent boss since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

It won’t be too long before Ten Hag finally makes his way to Old Trafford to step into his new role. For supporters, and likely plenty of others at the club, that day can’t come soon enough.

The Dutchman will have a huge job on his hands when he arrives at United. Ten Hag will be placed in charge of picking up the pieces after what has been a dismal season at Old Trafford, and a major rebuild could be in the pipeline.

With the deal now confirmed, he will soon be able to get down to work on putting together his squad for the 2022-23 season. And United fans will be able to get their first glimpse of Ten Hag’s United during pre-season.

In fact, his first match in charge will provide a big test for the new manager and his side, with United set to face old rivals Liverpool in their first outing of the summer. United will face Jurgen Klopp’s team on July 12 in Bangkok as they begin their pre-season tour.

Having been soundly beaten by Liverpool twice this season, the clash could provide an indicator of the impact made by Ten Hag in his early stages at United. Although it is only a pre-season meeting, the new boss will be eager to make a good first impression.
