Erik ten Hag's stance on Anthony Martial as Man Utd fail to find buyer for Frenchman

Anthony Martial could be reintegrated into Manchester United’s first-team squad next season after the Red Devils failed to find a buyer for the Frenchman.

The France international spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick.

Martial forced through a move to Spain but his luck didn’t change in La Liga, with the former Monaco ace failing to make enough of an impression for the side to contemplate a permanent deal.

Ten Hag had deemed Martial surplus to requirements as he wants forwards that are capable of near-constant pressing but the Manchester Evening News says offers for the striker have been in short supply so far this summer.

Though United have not ruled out a departure for Martial, they are now facing up to the possibility of keeping the Frenchman.

Martial is set to report for pre-season training on Monday alongside other players that did not participate in the recent international fixtures.

United are keen on signing a new forward this summer, with Ajax winger Antony high on the club’s priority list.

That could push Martial further to the fringes, with the Frenchman already behind Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho for a spot on the left-flank.

He could, however, provide back-up for Cristiano Ronaldo as a central striker.
