Cristiano Ronaldo exit reports prove Erik ten Hag is the right man for Manchester United

Erik ten Hag's revolution at Manchester United hasn't started as many had hoped and Cristiano Ronaldo's reported request to leave should a suitable offer be placed has only made matters worse. The club finished a disappointing sixth last season as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The Manchester Evening News understands that United's stance on Ronaldo is that he is not for sale and they fully expect him to see out the rest of his contract. The forward was meant to report back to pre-season training on Monday but was absent due to family reasons.

The Ronaldo news is potentially the beginning of an unwanted saga for Ten Hag. Some United fans are concerned that Ronaldo might be leaving, while others are happy that the forward could be on his way out but are worried that the club will be unable to secure a suitable replacement.

I'm here to say that everything is going to be just fine. If Ronaldo does want to leave and is refused an exit, it seems unlikely that a player so regularly praised for his professional attitude would take his eye off the ball and hinder United's push to return to the Champions League.

But if he was to leave, it certainly wouldn't be the end of the world. Debates have raged about whether Ronaldo is the right sort of striker for Ten Hag, with the general consensus being that he's not and the manager's system would be better off without him. But he is still a top striker who will always score goals.
