Erik ten Hag's new Manchester United target is exactly what the club need

After a relentless and gruelling 61-game campaign so far, the curtain will fall on Erik ten Hag's first season in charge when Manchester United face rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday. The Reds concluded their league schedule with a 2-1 triumph over Fulham on Sunday, ensuring they finished the campaign in a respectable third place.

That meant they did more than enough to cement their place back in the Champions League for next season, following a year in the Europa League. Much to everyone's delight, Europe's biggest names will be visiting Old Trafford on Tuesday and Wednesday nights again next term.

As well as securing a top-four finish and Champions League qualification this season, United have also ended their six-year wait for a trophy; they lifted the Carabao Cup back in February after beating Newcastle United, who finished fourth in the league standings, 2-0 at Wembley. If you had offered any United supporter at the start of the season a top-four finish and a major trophy they would have snapped your hand off.

Yet with just one more game of the domestic season still to be played, United could end Ten Hag's debut campaign at the helm by adding another trophy to their collection. As tough as it will be to halt City and derail their treble hopes, you can never rule anything out in football, certainly not in a cup final.
