Erik ten Hag reveals his plan for Manchester United youngster Amad after star performance

Erik ten Hag has challenged Manchester United youngster Amad to make this season 'his' after delivering a strong performance against Rangers in pre-season.

Amad started on the right wing against Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium and opened the scoring with a brilliant goal, cutting inside and finding the bottom left corner.

The 22-year-old's goal was the standout moment of quality in the first half and he looked bright and proactive, linking up well with his teammates and looking sharp on the wing. Amad ended last season with a flourish and it seems the summer break has not disrupted his momentum.

Last summer, Amad sustained a knee injury in pre-season and missed the first half of the campaign, but he was forced to wait for opportunities after returning to fitness in December.

Amad was overlooked in January and February and grew frustrated with his lack of game time. He then scored the matchwinner in a memorable 4-3 victory over Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with an appearance from the bench and that felt like his turning point.

However, Amad had to wait until May 12 to receive his first start of the Premier League season against Arsenal and he emerged with credit, despite United losing the game. Amad started the final two league games against Newcastle and Brighton and was named on the bench in the FA Cup final, which many believed was unfortunate given his form.

Against Rangers in Edinburgh, Amad hit the ground running and Ten Hag praised the youngster when he was asked about his performance by a handful of reporters.
