Erik ten Hag may have no choice but to sell Manchester United player he 'loves'

Everyone remembers the introduction back in September 2015: an unforgettable Manchester United moment as Old Trafford erupted at the sight of Anthony Martial tucking home, on debut, against Liverpool. It is one of those goals that will stay in the memory forever but, almost eight years on, the scorer of it looks to be heading towards the exit door.

Manager Erik ten Hag has secured the signing of Mason Mount, with goalkeeper Andre Onana and striker Rasmus Hojlund seemingly next on the Dutchman's shopping list. While Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen were primary targets, the addition of Hojlund would be one for United supporters to get behind - a top, young, hungry centre-forward with a high ceiling.

It would, though, push Martial down the pecking order and leave the Frenchman surely considering his future. After an impressive 2019/20 campaign, which saw Martial scored 23 goals in all competitions, he has netted 17 across the last three - which featured a half-season loan spell at Sevilla. It is the number nine's minutes, though, which have been the greater concern.

Roy Keane pointed it out back in April, saying: "The problem, I think the manager’s mentioned it in the last few days - he’s always worried there’s an issue with his fitness. He always seems to be injured. I know when he plays him his goal record is not too bad, but he just can’t depend on him."
