Erik ten Hag learns Ronald Koeman is not a fan of his Man United transfer plan

Matthijs de Ligt has yet to make an appearance for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, with Ronald Koeman seemingly not as keen on him as Erik ten Hag.

The defender from Bayern Munich is currently in discussions about a potential move to Manchester United, which would reunite him with his former Ajax manager, reports the Mirror.

Despite being a prominent figure in European football since his teenage years, the 24-year-old Dutchman's career has hit a roadblock following stints at Juventus and the German powerhouse.

Bayern Munich has set De Ligt's price tag at £42.4million, plus add-ons, a significant decrease from the £68m they paid for him in 2022. Although Ten Hag views him as a crucial part of his plans to strengthen his defence, Koeman doesn't seem to hold the same high regard for the defender, given that he hasn't played for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 this summer.

The defensive duo of Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij has been effective for the team, who will face Turkey in the quarter-finals after a 3-0 victory over Romania on Tuesday. Even substitute appearances have eluded De Ligt, with Micky van de Ven of Tottenham being preferred to finish games.

Despite his diminishing influence on the international stage, Ten Hag's pursuit of his former player makes sense, considering the success they had together at Ajax, where De Ligt was made captain by the now-Manchester United boss at just 18 years old.
