Erik ten Hag knows the late transfer solution to Manchester United issue that has Gary Neville worried

Manchester United have 72 hours to rubber-stamp any transfers and a late swoop for Ryan Gravenberch could address one problem already flagged-up by Gary Neville this season.

Despite spending £180million-plus on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund this summer, United have been forced back into the market due to a lack of form and fortune.

United have taken six points from nine on offer but their performances, aside from a rousing comeback to defeat Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, have generally been underwhelming. Dealing with several injury problems have not helped their cause either.

Even before Mount was struck down there were measures put in place to further strengthen the engine room. United are still considering a move for Gravenberch before the 11pm deadline passes on Friday night.

In a parallel universe, Erik ten Hag might have got the same player on a freebie last summer. No sooner than Ajax showed Ten Hag a green light to pursue his Premier League managerial dream, the latest talent to develop on the famed Amsterdam production line - Gravenberch - was headed to Bavaria.
