Manchester United's success last season was built on two main strengths: a solid defence and an excellent home record.

However, as the reward for winning the FA Cup is qualification for the Europa League, the possibility of United losing to Manchester City in next month's final means that Europa League spot will be handed down to the sixth-placed Premier League side, meaning so long as United finish fifth or sixth they are guaranteed Europa League qualification, with City already assured of Champions League participation.

However, as City will head into the showpiece event at Wembley as favourites, United need to ensure they finish inside the top six. They are currently one point ahead of seventh-placed Newcastle United, five clear of West Ham United and six ahead of Chelsea, who do have a game in hand.
