Erik ten Hag has one big chance to save Manchester United's season

Three down, one to go. Manchester United must face the realisation of having just a sole remaining chance to secure silverware this season.

Mathematically, they can still win the Premier League but that is nothing but a dream. Many had already condemned United to their Champions League exit before Bayern Munich arrived at Old Trafford in midweek.

The 1-0 defeat was dull, lifeless and drawn out, characterising the club as a whole since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. There was an air of inevitability when the final whistle blew and United’s humiliation was confirmed.

Perhaps a symptom of the apathy which engulfs Old Trafford? But the Dutchman has one ace up his sleeve to save Man United’s season in the shape of the FA Cup.

A favourable third-round tie will see Ten Hag travel across Greater Manchester next month to take on Wigan Athletic. Fans might be concerned about a potential upset with the Latics sitting 14th in League One but United should, in all honesty, be in the fourth round.
