Erik ten Hag has loan decisions to make on 17 Manchester United players

Erik ten Hag has gotten to know his new Manchester United squad over the last few weeks and now he has a lot of decisions to make.

United enjoyed a positive and productive tour of Thailand and Australia in which they didn't just pick up some galvanising victories but, more importantly, seemed to adapt quickly to their new manager's methods and already looked more confident, drilled and creative. Though he still wants to make additions to his squad, new signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez weren't involved and Cristiano Ronaldo's future remains up in the air, Ten Hag's strongest starting XI began to take shape.

With two more friendlies to go before the Premier League kicks off, there is still time for players to impress enough to change his plans but Ten Hag is already looking settled on his go-to players and what remains is to decide who will stay at Old Trafford and who will leave. United have often used the loan market, rather than selling players outright, and there could be plenty of players leaving on a temporary basis before the window closes on September 1.

Dean Henderson was the first loan departure last month as he joined Nottingham Forest and there could be several other first-team players who have a similar fate. The most likely candidate is Axel Tuanzebe. The academy graduate has been unable to live up to his potential and with so much competition ahead of him will not become a regular at United. The centre-back spent last season at Aston Villa and Napoli but failed to impress and, with a year left on his contract, will probably get another loan move to put him in the shop window ahead of his release.
