Erik ten Hag gave Dan Gore his Manchester United debut against Crystal Palace for two reasons

Erik ten Hag has suggested Dan Gore's debut for Manchester United was earned through hard work and high training standards.

Ten Hag made seven changes from the team he started against Burnley at the weekend and yet the team still consisted of quality throughout, with Andre Onana, Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Mason Mount all playing from the first whistle.

United started the game in dominant fashion and that superiority was rewarded in the 20th minute when Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring from close range, on what would eventually be a very comfortable night.

The Reds were 2-0 up shortly after Garnacho's goal thanks to a powerful header from Casemiro from a corner. The win looked secured from that moment as Crystal Palace were offering very little and Anthony Martial scored the third in the second half.

It was the perfect night for United - with a straightforward win claimed and players returning from injury - and Crystal Palace will visit Old Trafford again in just a few days time to play the same fixture in the Premier League.

It was also a dream night for Gore, who replaced Sofyan Amrabat in the 60th minute to make his senior debut for the club. The young midfielder was part of the 2021/22 FA Youth Cup winning side and he signed a new contract in July.

Speaking to MUTV after the game, Ten Hag was asked about Gore, who celebrated his 19th birthday on Tuesday, and he outlined the requirements for an academy product to be handed their debut.
