Erik ten Hag faces summer dilemma over Manchester United's Player of the Year contender

Manchester United fans have not had a lot to cheer about this season. The club look likely to miss out on Champions League football next season and have been eliminated from every cup competition in which they have competed.

And this has also been reflected in how fans have responded to the players, with the club's Player of the Year awards likely to be an interesting affair at the end of the season. But one United player who has improved, and even completely changed most fans' opinions, is Fred.

The Brazilian midfield had garnered a negative reputation as part of the 'McFred' partnership. The duo which included Fred and Scott McTominay was described as functional by many fans, but not technical enough to take United to the next level and compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.

However, under Rangnick, Fred has been played a more advanced role and has thrived. The high level of movement and energy that he had displayed in a defensive role is now being utilised to play to his strengths.

Fred has been able to press the opposition from the front, winning possession back and creating chances for his teammates - he has four goals and four assists in the Premier League this season and surely in the running for Player of the Year.

But with Erik ten Hag arriving in the summer, does the Brazilian midfielder have a place in the squad in the long term? In the short term, as was reported by the Independent, Ten Hag focused on the team's fitness levels in his interview and the Brazilian is clearly a standout in that department.
