Erik ten Hag explains how Manchester United players and fans can make him proud vs Newcastle

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that he will only be proud of a trophy win if the Reds play the game in the right way in front of their fans.

United face Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon, with United aiming to win their first trophy since 2017. Ten Hag's side are the only side in England still competing on all four fronts and the quadruple is still on the cards for the club.

Ten Hag's men progressed to the last-16 of the Europa League on Thursday night - securing a 4-3 aggregate victory over Spanish giants Barcelona. United will take on another La Liga outfit, Real Betis, in the last 16 next month.

However, before they continue their European quest, United will clash with the Magpies in the Carabao Cup final this weekend. The Reds are favourites to life the first domestic trophy of the campaign, but Ten Hag has insisted that the way his players approach the game is important to him.

When asked if he is proud of the way the players and fans have 'embraced' his ideas at United, Ten Hag told Sky Sports: "Proud I don't think is the right word, no. How proud I would be, of course when we are acting as a team because you don't think it's so normal, you have to work really hard for it.

"But then you are really proud when you're winning trophies with the team and you do it in a way that people like. The people see there's a good spirit, there's a good fight in the team, they want to play in a proactive way, in a dynamic way. If the fans embrace it, they will make me proud."

Ten Hag's side have received widespread praise for their performances this season, with the likes of
