Erik ten Hag could repeat his failed tactical experiment in Manchester United vs Brighton

Manchester United will make another trip to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton this weekend.

United began the campaign with a 1-0 win over Fulham thanks to Joshua Zirkzee, who produced the matchwinner in the 87th minute with an intelligent finish at the Stretford End.

That goal from United's first signing of this summer claimed the three points and Erik ten Hag has prepared his players to claim back-to-back victories at Carrington this week.

United visited Brighton from home on the final day of last season, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund, although the latter is still sidelined due to a hamstring injury he sustained in pre-season, which means he will be absent from the squad again.

Fernandes as the false nine?

Bruno Fernandes started the new Premier League season just as he finished the last - playing as a false nine. Fernandes played in that role on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign against Brighton but that experiment failed and he was unable to have his usual influence.

United improved when Hojlund was introduced to the game in the second half and scored twice, with Hojlund helping set up the first and finding the back of the net to make it 2-0.
