Erik ten Hag cancels day off for Manchester United players after Brentford defeat

Erik ten Hag cancelled a planned day off for his Manchester United players following their humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

The United first-team squad were due to be given Sunday off in order to recuperate ahead of a return to training next week, but Ten Hag was so outraged with the performance that he demanded they come in for an extra training session.

United arrived back in Manchester on Saturday night following their defeat and were called back into Carrington on Sunday morning to be put through their paces again.

The players had hoped for some downtime following the match at Brentford, given that they do not play again next week, with their game against Liverpool taking place a week on Monday at Old Trafford.

That match against Jurgen Klopp's side is expected to take place amid fresh protests surrounding the Glazers' ownership of the club after another disappointing summer with a lack of meaningful investment.

United fans on social media have started the '#EmptyOldTrafford' movement, which is looking to ensure supporters stay away from Old Trafford for the match against Liverpool in an effort to send a message to their American owners.

Last year, United's home clash with Liverpool was postponed following protests against the Glazer family. Hundreds of fans managed to break into the stadium ahead of the behind-closed-doors fixture, resulting in a delay to kick-off before it was eventually postponed altogether.
