Erik ten Hag can rely on Manchester United ‘weapon’ to help transform season

Erik ten Hag has been presented with an opportunity to transform Manchester United’s shaky start to the new season.

The Reds have looked unsettled in the first few weeks of the campaign, suffering three defeats in their first six league games. Even in victory, United have struggled to look overly convincing, with the manager still searching for the correct balance in midfield.

Bruno Fernandes’ majestic strike against Burnley on Saturday halted a slump of three consecutive defeats and brought a vital morale boost. While United are still finding their feet, Ten Hag will be confident that his side can begin to turn a corner and has been given the perfect platform to do so.

The manager’s success last season was built around a formidable record at Old Trafford. After overcoming early defeats to Brighton and Real Sociedad, United went on a 31-game unbeaten run at M16, which was only brought to an end earlier this month.

Following their win at Turf Moor, the Reds are facing four consecutive home games, starting with a Carabao Cup and Premier League double-header against Crystal Palace. Ten Hag has often hailed the positive impact that the Old Trafford crowd can have on his team, as he explained at a special fans press conference, last November.

“The atmosphere, what we see in the moment at Old Trafford is magnificent, the fight, I think you feel it, I think it strengthens the squad,” the United boss said.

“I think it also feeds the opponents how difficult it is to get points and we have to build that and to construct that further on, that process, the
