Erik ten Hag breaks silence on Marcus Rashford row with Manchester United fan

Erik ten Hag said every Manchester United fan at Old Trafford on Wednesday was "very positive" about the future as he played down a video showing one confronting Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was filmed during the warm-ups on Wednesday night reacting to something a supporter had said in the stands. The 26-year-old starred back at the supporter and briefly walked away from the rest of the substitutes he was with, before being pulled back by Christian Eriksen and Antony.

In the video posted on social media another fan can be heard shouting "Rashford, don't listen to him." It isn't clear what was said that made Rashford react but only a few weeks ago he posted that the abuse of him had been going on for months.

Ten Hag said he had seen the clip that went viral on social media on Wednesday but played the incident down and refused to criticise the supporter, insisting the game had shown the bond between players and fans.

"I have seen [the video]," said Ten Hag. "I felt yesterday, there were 68,000 fans, 3,000 from Newcastle, maybe they were negative, but the 68,000 fans were very positive about the mood and the spirit and the fight and the ambience in the stadium. That shows the strong bond between the team and the fans."

Despite the fact it has come so late in the season Ten Hag believes the 3-2 win against Newcastle on Wednesday can almost act as a turning point in the season, especially as it was driven by the young players, with Kobbie Mainoo, Amad and Rasmus Hojlund scoring the goals.
