Erik ten Hag arrives for Manchester United's first day of pre-season

Erik ten Hag has arrived at Manchester United's Carrington training complex for the first day of pre-season training.

Ten Hag was driven into Carrington at 8am, around two hours before United's non-internationals are due to report.

Steve McClaren, one of Ten Hag's assistants along with Mitchell van der Gaag, also returned to Carrington for the first time as a United coach since May 2001.

McClaren used the facilities as assistant to England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson between 2001-06 and then during his own tenure as Eriksson's successor.

The United players who featured in the round of June international are due to start pre-season training next Monday. Club sources say some returns will be staggered. United fly to Bangkok for the first leg of their pre-season tour on July 8.

Players on international duty are usually granted a minimum three-week break before they return to their clubs.

Many of United's non-internationals were abroad last week but some checked in at Carrington on Friday ahead of Monday's official return date.

Goalkeepers David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton, defenders Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw, midfielder Donny van de Beek and forwards Amad, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are all expected to be at Carrington on Monday.

Henderson could be rerouted to Nottingham Forest's training base as he prepares to complete a season-long loan move. The transfer is provisionally agreed and Henderson has to undergo a medical once he returns from his honeymoon.
