Erik ten Hag comment shows what position Christian Eriksen will play for Manchester United
Manchester United are looking to upgrade the midfield this summer to fully implement Erik ten Hag's vision. The Manchester Evening News understands that while the club have agreed a deal with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong — but are yet to agree personal terms with the player — they have also agreed a deal in principle with Christian Eriksen to sign the midfielder on a free transfer.
Eriksen has a lot of experience in the Premier League playing in multiple roles for both Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford. The Danish midfielder has also trained under Ten Hag before, as he worked with Ajax to regain fitness after his cardiac arrest and before his stunning return to the Premier League last season.
But what position will Eriksen play for United? Fans have been debating this online and Ten Hag's latest press conference may have inadvertently given a hint.

Bruno Fernandes is understandably United's starting number 10, but many thought that Eriksen would act as a back-up for the midfielder, but this then raised questions over where Donny van de Beek would play. However, Ten Hag told the media in his latest press conference of his former Ajax protégé: "He can do both [play deep and high], I know that from the past.
"His best position is in the box of the opponent and playing just behind the striker. He has a really good smell for being in the right position."
This could mean that Eriksen could be played deeper as part of the pivot at United as he did at Brentford this season, or out wide like at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino. He could be ideal in a deep-lying playmaker role, creating from further back than the likes of Fernandes
