Erik ten Hag addresses Rasmus Hojlund boos as Christian Eriksen makes blunt Man United claim

United manager Erik ten Hag considered the booing aimed at his decision to substitute Rasmus Hojlund in the second half of this afternoon's 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion as a positive.

Hojlund, who was awarded his first start since joining the club from Atalanta last month, was withdrawn after 64 minutes and replaced by Anthony Martial. United were already 2-0 down at the juncture in desperate need of a spark to resurrect a comeback.

However, supporters made their disapproval of Ten Hag's decision to take the Dane off known, booing as he and Martial traded places. Hojlund had made a solid first impression on his first Old Trafford outing and was denied a goal by VAR.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen admitted that it is unacceptable for United to have lost three of their opening five Premier League games following their reverse to Brighton. The Reds suffered a second successive 3-1 defeat, courtesy of goals either side of half-time from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro.

The Seagulls raced into a 3-0 lead ahead of Hannibal Mejbri netting a consolation effort two minutes after Pedro netted the visitors' third. United have now lost three of their opening five league games for the first time since the 1989/90 campaign.

With just six points from a possible 15 on the board, Eriksen, who started for the third game in succession, admitted that the Reds need to try and correct their recent woes.
