England boss Carsley names Gomes and Livramento in first squad

:England's interim manager Lee Carsley named uncapped Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White and Noni Madueke in his first squad on Thursday (Aug 29).

Carsley, appointed interim manager following Gareth Southgate's resignation after the recent European Championship, left out defender Kyle Walker while left back Luke Shaw and midfielder Jude Bellingham were unavailable due to injury.

Striker Ivan Toney and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale have also been left out of the squad while forward Jack Grealish and centre back Harry Maguire earned recalls.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was included in the squad and listed as a defender, his usual position, rather than as a midfielder, where he was utilised by Southgate at times at Euro 2024.

Gomes, Livramento, Gibbs-White and Madueke are players Carsley worked with closely during his time in charge of England's Under 21s

"It was important to put my own stamp on the squad, but also recognise how well they have done in the past," said Carsley.

"We have to recognise that but I thought it was important that we put some fresh faces in and put our own little mark on the squad."

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier announced his retirement from international football earlier on Thursday, shortly before the squad was revealed.

"I think it was important to get players and staff around me who understand how I work and how I want to see a camp run, understand the quick turnaround between meet-up and playing games," Carsley added.

England will play Ireland in Dublin on Sep 7 and Finland at Wembley three days later in the Nations League.

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Nick Pope (Newcastle)

Defenders: Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), John
