Emmerdale's Ruby star reveals Caleb backstory and why she 'can't let him go'

Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly has revealed more about Ruby Milligan-Fox and Caleb Milligan's back story following her explosive arrival to the village. The character made her first appearance in the Dales at the start of the year after Caleb and their son Nicky arrived in 2022 to try and fleece Kim Tate of Home Farm.

She's already ruffled plenty of feathers - particularly among the Dingles. But fans of the ITV soap will rightly be confused about Ruby's intentions as she went behind her husband's back in a bid to team up with enemy Kim while also getting a case of the green-eyed monster when exposing his affair with his nephew's wife Tracy Robinson.

And while Ruby and Caleb's backstory is yet to be explored on the ITV soap, actress Beth gave a bit of insight. "They got together when they were teenagers and they're sort of stuck," she told the Manchester Evening News and other press.

"She's giving up everything for him in her eyes, she turned her back on her family for him. So since she was sort of 16, he and Nicky have been her whole world, and she doesn't appear to have any friends. So actually, it's sort of fear-based, as well in that if she loses them, she loses everything."

Emmerdale viewers have often questioned Ruby's behaviour over Caleb but Beth, who is probably best known to viewers for starring in The Bill as PC Kerry Young, has said: "It’s not an obsession like a Fatal Attraction type thing, I don’t think."
