Emergency services swarm street as two people cut from Audi that was flipped over onto roof in crash

Emergency services swarmed a street in Stretford on Monday afternoon (May 22) after an Audi was flipped onto its roof. Two people were cut from the vehicle and rescued by specialist teams at the scene following the crash.

A number of police vehicles and fire engines were called out to the scene on Urmston Lane, near to the Stretford Shopping Mall, shortly before 2.45pm to reports a car had overturned.

Pictures taken from the scene showed the black Audi on its roof in the middle of the road, with a number of specialist crews surrounding the car amid the rescue.

It was confirmed that specialist equipment had to be used to cut two people from the car who were then assessed at the scene by trauma technicians. The road was closed between Sandy Lane and Barton Road.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 2.45pm this afternoon (Monday, 22 May), two fire engines from Stretford and Sale fire stations, and the technical response unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne were called to attend a road traffic collision on Urmston Lane, Stretford.

“Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to extricate two people from an overturned vehicle. The pair were then assessed by a fire service trauma technician. Firefighters made the area safe before departing after approximately 50 minutes at the scene.”

Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for further details.
