'Embarrassing!' — Man United fans slam Gabby Agbonlahor's Marko Arnautovic comments

Manchester United fans have laughed off Gabriel Agbonlahor's recent provocative remarks as the former Aston Villa told supporters to 'stop living in the Fergie years'.

The wave of optimism that Erik ten Hag brought with him to Old Trafford appeared to vanish within just 39 minutes on Sunday, as United found themselves two goals down at home to Brighton. A chorus of boos rang around the stadium at both half-time and full-time as fans voiced their displeasure at the performance — and the current state of the club.

It has been a disappointing transfer window so far for United fans. Their club has added three new signings in the form of Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen. But with just three weeks to go, it is clear that more reinforcements are needed to give Ten Hag the support he needs to turn the club's fortunes around.

Agbonlahor, however, said that it is time for United fans to accept their new reality as a club that "can't attract top players", amid the news that United held an interest in former Stoke and West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic. The interest has since been withdrawn, with the backlash from fans on social media a contributing factor.

The former Premier League player told TalkSport : “I don’t know who Man United fans think they are. Arnautovic makes that squad a better squad.

“They’ve got to stop living in the Fergie years. Man United, now, are a club who can’t attract top players.

“There’s talk about looking to the future with younger players. They’ve done that with Sancho and he can’t take anyone on. He gets the ball, he passes it back to Dalot, he hides, he doesn’t get past people.
