Elderly man taken to hospital following 'serious' Cardiff crash
Emergency services have been at the scene of what has been described by police as a serious collision on a main route in and out of Cardiff. Penarth Road in Leckwith was blocked in both directions from the old Porsche garage to the Hadfield Road junction for around two hours on Tuesday afternoon until around 4pm.
It later emerged a single vehicle had ended up on its side trapping an elderly male driver inside the vehicle. The roof was cut off the vehicle involved and the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance.
A statement from South Wales Police issued shortly before 2.30pm said the road was likely to remain closed for some time while motorists were urged to find an alternative route. Eyewitnesses and motorists reported traffic was coping well in the area at 3.30pm.
The elderly driver involved in the collision suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, South Wales Police said later on Tuesday.
