Elden Ring: Speedrunner beats the game in just over 12 minutes

A speedrunner has been able to beat Elden Ring, one of the most massive games ever made, in just 12 minutes.

It should be said, before we get into this news story, that speedrunners really are a different breed. They don’t exactly play games for the enjoyment of it, more to finish it as quickly as humanly possible.

And that is exactly what has happened in this scenario.

As per Kotaku, the speedrunner and YouTuber, MitChriz, has beaten the game in an astonishing time of 12 minutes and 32 seconds.

Now, this is not a 100% completion speedrun, where players try to do everything in the shortest possible time.

This is an any percentage, no restrictions, speedrun; MitChriz was merely trying to get the credits to roll as quickly as humanly possible using any means necessary.

As per Kotaku’s report, he didn’t exactly do it in the way you would expect, instead utilising a trick called ‘zipping’, which allows players to essentially teleport across the world.

Zipping is a glitch and allows players to skip certain areas of the game, which is what MitChriz has done, as he completely bypasses the Limgrave portion of the game, which is the first area you encounter. They get to Liurnia, and then go through a gate which takes them to an endgame area.

For the zipping to work, you also need a hugely powerful rig in order to make it work and even then, they are remarkably inconsistent, as you can essentially zip and find yourself above water, where you would fall and then die.

MitChriz has worked out a way to control the zips, though, and managed to zip past all but one of the bosses in the game.

It has allowed them to see the credits in record time, although it is a speedrun which is likely to be beaten down the line once more and more
