Elden Ring: Game predicted to outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Elden Ring has been a gigantic success for From Software and has now been predicted to end 2022 as the best-selling game in the United States of America, as per NPD Group.

The report initially comes from analysis out of the group, who published findings on Wednesday.

They claim that spending on video games in the US is in decline, but they predicted that Elden Ring will end the year as the best-selling video game.

It would only be the third time that the highest-selling game of the year is not a Call of Duty title.

Of course, Modern Warfare 2 is set to be released later this year, and it is expected to be one of the best-selling games of the past 12 months, although it will not top the list.

NPD have published a list of the 10 games they think will make up the biggest sellers of the year.

They are, in alphabetical order: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Gotham Knights, Horizon: Forbidden West, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Madden NFL 23, NBA 2K23, Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.

Despite Elden Ring’s success, Call of Duty is predicted to remain the best-selling premium gaming franchise, for the 14th consecutive year. That is a record.

Further to their gaming analysis, NPD has also predicted which console will end the year as the best-seller, and it is likely to be the Nintendo Switch.

However, the Xbox Series X/S will be the only console hardware to show sales growth from 2021.

That is largely down to hardware shortages and an inability for gamers to buy the PS5 and the Xbox Series consoles in stores.

And NPD believes that the hardware shortages will continue well into 2023, and could also impact VR.
